Escape

This piece is basically a simplified depiction of the tools of the trade. The art desk and drawing pencils represent my life as an artist (quite literally).  The title betrays what that life is like to me - another world.  Since I because serious about art and drawing a few years back, I have been fascinated with the sky and natural beauty.  The out-of-focus window also presents an opportunity for the viewer to "escape" the room and look out into the sky. 

This was the first time I used a photo which I took myself as a reference for a drawing. It was an interesting challenge to create not just the technical aspects of the piece, but the conceptual and compositional aspects as well. I think the experience helped me look at my pieces differently.
